Welcome the Book Report Couse
Short Description of the Course
This course is designed to introduce students to Extensive Reading, develop their understanding of literary elements, increase their interest and enjoyment in reading literary and non-literary works, and help them express their thoughts and feelings about the articles they read. Throughout the course, students are to read short stories from different genres. Students will report each article they read to their friends and discuss the elements/aspects, their feelings, and their thoughts. This course is compulsory and offered in semester II. There is no prerequisite course for the Book Report.
Competence Standard (Goals of the course)
On completing the course, the students are able to
Competence
1. Analyze and evaluate the right articles for themselves
2. Develop a basic understanding of literary and non-literary works' aspects/elements.
3. Identify the main ideas of literary and non-literary works and make short summaries and reviews of literary and non-literary works they read.
4. Report their summaries and reviews in good English.
5. Express their thoughts and feelings towards literary and non-literary works they have read in good English.
6. Response
7. Able to use words, chunks, and expressions they found from the articles they read.
Conscience
1. Improve sensitivity towards the implicit messages in the texts they read.
2. Grow awareness towards words, chunks, and expressions in the texts (metacognitive awareness and metalinguistic awareness).
3. Improve their responsibility and autonomy in finding, reading, and reporting stories/articles.
Compassion
1. Help one another, fellow students, to improve their understanding of the text
2. Develop an appreciation of other people’s opinions and arguments.
